The Opal is a distinctly unique gemstone, and is the official birthstone for October. It is known for its unique display of flashing rainbow, “kaleidoscope” of colors. Made from deposits of silica in rock, it carries a lower hardness scale - 5 or 6, but this also means that no two opals are ever alike!
